We all know that feeling of boredom when you’re only a couple of days into the summer holidays but already six episodes deep in a lousy Netflix show, yet can’t stop because there’s nothing else to do. Or spending hours on your phone, aimlessly scrolling through Instagram or watching TikToks.
With the holidays coming closer, here’s a list of 5 things you can do these holidays to beat your boredom (on a budget).
1. Take a hike:
Get your friends together and look for a hiking trail nearby where you can get some fresh air and work up a sweat. All while admiring the natural beauty of your local surroundings.
2. Pick up a new hobby:
Its always great to try new things, so choosing a new hobby would be perfect to fill in spare time. Some of my favourites are trying a new sport such as basketball, hockey or even ice skating. You could try taking some online drawing classes or even trying knitting or crocheting, the list goes on!
3. Host your own bake-off:
Find a recipe for a sweet treat or even other baked goods like lasagne and challenge a friend to a bake-off. Find someone to judge and pick the best cook, but the judge can’t know the who made the creations. The winning choice could be based off the dish with the weirdest shape or the best flavours.
4. Make a slip ‘n’ slide:
This is by far the most fun choice on the list. All you need is a hose, some dishwashing liquid and a large sheet of plastic to make your very own slip ‘n’ slide. All you have to do is slick it up with some soap suds and head to your local grassy hill for an epic home-made adrenaline rush.
5. Go backyard camping:
Wouldn’t it be awesome to be sleeping under the stars, in the comfort of your own home? Pitch a tent in your backyard, toast some marshmallows and trade spooky stories for the ultimate at-home adventure. (Added benefit: Wi-Fi access and an indoor bathroom.)
