THE MARY word wishes all students and staff a wonderful Christmas break and new year! May it be a time of rest, fresh starts, good health and summer Fun!

"And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”

- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

2020 has been an anomaly. This community has faced adversity with conviction, and this is something to be incredibly proud of.

Our final issue of the year revolves around the theme of 'Summer', represented through the signature frangipani blossom. We hope you have enjoyed the anthem 'Boys of Summer' by Don Henley as the school bell, celebrating the season.

As reflecting on the year gone can evoke negative emotion, we wish that this issue brings you joy as you head into the summer holiday.

See you next year,

The Mary Word.

The Modern Mary Word

Having farewelled the dedicated Nicola and Gian, The Mary Word Editors-in-Chief for 2021 are looking to step up and fill some remarkable shoes.

Within this issue are new avenues of the paper. This comes following a six-week design sprint process conducted by the Editors-in-Chief in collaboration with key stakeholders and interest groups across the school.

'Teacher Friends' is a video series that invites you to laugh and philosophise along with our teachers through the universally entertaining format of classic 90's sitcom TV. There will be more episodes and different teacher friends in future editions of the paper in 2021.

The 'Millennium Mic' podcast is a new addition to our paper and will be another multi-episode series that will run throughout 2021. Editors in Chief, Alessia Anderson and Isobel Chambers (and some special guests in 2021) will share their thoughts on the big issues of the world in each podcast. Put the kettle on, make a cup of tea, get your headphones, put your feet up and listen to episode 1 where Alessia and Isobel discuss the recent U.S. Election.

We really hope you enjoy our new directions in this summer issue!
