Hello! So you're a new student this year! Or maybe you’ve been here too long and need some tips before the music fest. You’ve come to the right place! I have everything you need to survive the music fest this year!
Don’t panic
I know it sounds cringy, but seriously, don’t overthink. Music Fest is fun if you make it fun, but if you just think of the negatives, that’s all you’ll see. So chill, take it easy, and enjoy Music Fest the way you want!
Distractions
While Music Fest is pretty fun, yes, it can be boring. The 3hr concert that no one wanted, plus more speeches, can go on for ages. So, maybe just bring something to fiddle with or something to keep you distracted, or maybe a deck of cards to play with before the concert starts. Plus, once it gets to the house choirs, it gets more fun once you jam along with your friends and decide that one house is better than the other.
Food
Food is very important for Music Fest, especially when you become bored during the day with the dress rehearsal, listening to songs you know you’ll hear about 3 more times before midnight. So, pack some tasty snacks to keep you sane, including lollies, bags of chips, and some healthy things (I know). Keep in mind that once midnight hits, the hunger hits, and you might want some snacks for the drive home at 1am.
Relationships
Although you might not spend the whole day and night with your friends, it is important to expand your comfort zone and talk to others. Sit with people you don’t normally talk to. I’m not telling you to go sit with that random girl in year 11 that you’ve seen once around the school. Talk to people who are okay to talk to you. This allows your comfort zone to gradually expand, and don’t worry, you still have heaps of time to get to know people in your house.
Timing
The dress rehearsal can go on for a while. Although high school comes later than primary, timing is important. Make sure to check the time you have to be there and arrive a bit before so you have time to settle in, meet your friends, and get a good basis of the day. You have the dress rehearsal first, and then they let the public in, and the show starts around 9, but can go until midnight. You will get an email letting you know what times you need to be there and the overview of the day, but that’s the basic layout.
Well, I hope this has everything you need for surviving maybe your first or last Music Fest this year! Good luck!
