New Year Fireworks & Traditions across the world.

Across the world, all different countries welcome the New Year with different traditions. The most iconic ways to celebrate are fireworks, but each place has their own special meaning behind them. In this article, we decided to rank the most impressive New Year’s fireworks and traditions from around the world.


These are ranked from the most spectacular to the most unique. All of this is biased.

1. Sydney, Australia

Sydney is known for hosting one of the biggest New Year's Eve fireworks displays in the whole world. The Sydney Harbour bridge and the Opera House light up with colour at 9pm to midnight, which draws tourists.  

2. Philippines  

In the Philippines, New Year's Eve is more creative, displayed through their energy and brightness. Traditional firecrackers and fireworks are believed to drive away evil spirits while families also display 12 round fruits that symbolise good fortune for each month of the coming year. Filipinos certainly know how to make a lot of chaotic fun, joy, and noise.

3. Paris, France

Paris celebrates with dazzling lights and fireworks often centered around the Arc de Triomphe and the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. All of the city combines together with fireworks, displays, and music. This ultimately creates an atmosphere filled with artistic celebrations that reflects French culture.

4. Singapore

In Singapore, around the Marina Bay, they host beautiful choreographed fireworks displays. This includes reflections across the water; drone displays, many projections on to the surrounding buildings. Singaporean New Year’s are viewed as some of more modern celebrations.

5. Brisbane, Australia

For New Year’s, Brisbane celebrates with fireworks along the Brisbane River. Similar to Sydney, fireworks are set from 9pm to midnight but it has a slightly more relaxed atmosphere compared to Sydney.

6. London, England

London’s New Year’s fireworks explode around the London eye, lighting up the Thames River. The shows are full of synchronised music, bright colours and a  countdown from the iconic Big Ben. It is one of Europe's most recognisable celebrations.

7. Tokyo, Japan

Japan’s New Year's traditions are a mix of modern and traditional. They still use fireworks, and many people visit temples for Joya No Kane. During these times, bells are rung 108 times to purify Japan. This day is used for reflection and renewal.

8. Rio De Janeiro, Brazil 

Rio is famous for its massive fireworks launched over the ocean. Many people wear white for good luck on this important day. The fireworks, which blend music, dance, and tradition, reflect beautifully off the water. 

9. Bali, Indonesia

Bali celebrations are lively, with fireworks lighting up beaches and resorts across  the island. All the locals and tourists gather for the countdown and light lanterns for a festive atmosphere.

10. Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok's New Year’s fireworks burst over the rivers, with rooftops bars and river cruises offering the perfect views. The city mixes street parties with blessings for good luck.
