Captain Marvel Review

By Erika San Diego

A new superhero has recently joined the MCU!

(Marvel Cinematic Universe)

Captain Marvel – this fierce female warrior has joined us in the marvel cinematic universe, so brace yourself for the adventure of your life! She fights whatever stands in her way, always ready for battle! This new addition to our marvel superhero characters, brings a sense of bravery like no other hero has done.

Carol Danvers, (played by Brie Larson) aka the one, and only Captain Marvel, is a brilliant cast choice for the lead. She breathes authenticity, human compassion, and vulnerability as said by Anna Boden, one of the directors. Brie also shows many of these qualities in the roles she’s played in other movies. During the movie there are many emotional scenes, making it more relatable for the audience. Brie herself even admits that Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers has flaws, when she says, “It’s your ability to get back up after your mistakes, to learn from those mistakes, to return to those mistakes whenever you need to”. She is an inspiration to all girls, and women alike. There is an imbedded video in the link on the last page of this article if you would like to watch where I got this information from.

Although, Brie Larson was not the only choice for actors on the director’s minds. A lot of actors wanted the part, or just a part in Marvel, therefore there was more competition for the lead role. Cast calls include award winning actors such as the very popular Jennifer Lawrence, Olivia Wilde, and Emily Blunt, just to name a few. They are all known for a particular TV show or movie, or multiple ones, at that. All these actors were considered for the role of Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, but as we know Scarlett Johansson got the part. So, these actors were considered for Captain Marvel. Even MMA Fighter turned WWE Wrestler, Ronda Rousey, publicly announced that she was interested in the part! So well done Brie Larson for getting the lead role!❤

The movie overall was amazing! The special effects complete the scenes perfectly. The directors, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, did an outstanding job in casting, the storyline and effects. There was also an unexpected twist included in the movie nobody saw coming. Captain Marvel was a good linking movie for the gateway to Avengers: Endgame, which I’m sure all Marvel fans are excited about, and getting ready for as well! But the story was so well thought out, (R.I.P Stan Lee, the real superhero in the world. Your world is coming together perfectly) with the pieces fitting together throughout the whole movie, all preparing for Avengers 4!

Samuel L Jackson also appears in the star cast, as we know him as Nick Fury. The rest of the cast consisted of Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos / Keller, Jude Law as Yon-Rogg, Annette Bening as Supreme Intelligence, Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Lee Pace as Ronan, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, and Rune Temte as Bron-Char. All the cast were incredible to watch in the movie and were wonderful actors, I really enjoyed watching!

I recommend that you watch Captain Marvel, it will leave you star-struck and inspired to become your own feminist hero in your own way! I also would watch this before Avengers: Endgame, so that it will make sense to you. I give Captain Marvel a 9 out of 10 rating✨, just because they changed things in the movie compared to the comics, which I was looking forward to seeing in the movie but didn’t. This movie will leave you itching with excitement for Avengers: Endgame!
