Social Media Star or Musician?

Georgia Angell and Isobel Parry

With the recent rise of the social age, people with little to no talent have gained popularity by dancing, lip syncing or eating cake. Influencers such as Gabbie Hanna, Dixie D'Amelio and Jojo Siwa have become embarrassed about the platform that they began on, and have moved onto the vast music industry. Yet, should they be allowed to release music?

Jake Paul became a huge social media influencer with the help of the Disney Channel and his brother Logan Paul. They’re both Youtube creators who are famous for their interesting filming style. Known for gaining fame with their petty brotherly feud which led into a monstrosity of music videos about irrelevant stuff.

This music phase started with a disagreement between brothers. ‘It’s Everyday Bro’ was the pinnacle of Jake’s career in the music industry, with over 286 million views and 5.4 million dislikes. Some of our favorite iconic lyrics are:

“Yo, it's Tessa Brooks

The competition shook

These guys up on me

I got 'em with the hook

Lemme educate ya'

And I ain't talking book

Panera is your home?

So, stop calling my phone

I'm flyin' like a drone

They buying like a loan

Yeah, I smell good

Is that your boy's cologne?”

To speak honestly, Miss Brooks is spitting facts. While Mr Paul is spitting halitosis.

The accompanying song to ‘It’s Everyday Bro’ is…. ‘The Fall of Jake Paul’ featuring Why Don’t We and Alissa Violet. Some lyrics from the scandalous man are:

“It should be every other day, just some strong advice

I made you famous once, it's about to happen twice

Yeah, you on Disney, but who helped you read all your lines (that's me)

Don't forget boy, you were my shadow on Vine” (Pt 1)

(Part 2 lyrics)

“Uh oh, that's Alissa Violet, used to be your chick

Now she in the Logang and you know she on my... team

Those cars ain't yours, man, that ‘stuff’ was just floated

Gun tattooed on your leg 'cause she knew you weren't loaded”

We have generously rated this 5/10 only because the roast is too good.

Bryce Hall and Josh Richards. Known for DOMINATING Tiktok (in 2020). Their mission was a one song diss-track to get the infamous Lil Huddy to not mess with Josh Richards’ girl, Nessa.

‘Still Softish’ is an Absolute BOP! A useful song to play in ANY situation.

The lyrics in this song are powerful and moving.

“Talk about money you got

You know you ain't got a lot (no money)

You know you had one shot (one shot)

Charli's the tik to your tok (tik tok, tik tok)

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock

Time's running out

Eighteen till you get clocked

Lights out, lights out, no tour

Knock your butt out till the fans want more”

We rate this song 7.5/10 as they are humble talented artists that have shaken the music industry.

Nessa Barrett’s rise to fame came about, due to her ex-boyfriend Josh Richards. However, Nessa has always been able to sing, and has displayed this talent while gaining followers. So she did have some intention of originally becoming an artist.

Nessa has released a few songs already, like ‘I hope you're miserable until you're dead’. This song actually isn’t too bad and has a banger of a build into the chorus. However, perhaps her music doesn't demonstrate any versatility.

We rate her 6.5/10 as all her music is the same, yet her music kinda slaps sometimes.

Our favorite Gabbie Hanna, can be described in two words - hot mess. She is well known for losing 80,000 followers in a month and for telling story times on Youtube. Being a scandalous woman, she’s responsible for producing a book full of blank pages, giving herself the reputation of being an attention seeking, difficult and dramatic

person.

We set all this aside unbiasedly to review her music career and raw.. talent.

Monster - the infamous song that turned into a meme

“Bend until you break and you can't take any more

I'm not worth the trouble, it seems

I would say you're wrong, but I've been here before

You won't be the last one to leave”

We think these lyrics are very DEEP!

And some more for your pleasure.

“So what if I'm the monster that's been here all along?

They're droppin' like flies whenever I'm around

So used to goodbyes, there's comfort in the sound

Maybe I'm the monster that's been here all along”

Overall, Gabbie Hanna lacks the charisma and maturity required to have a steady fanbase. Leaving her future undetermined. From our analysis, her music is too auto tuned as her live performances do not match the music audio. The lyrics lack sophistication.

As a result of all this we rate Gabbie Hanna… 3/10.

Dixie D’amelio, the well known sister of tik tokker Charli D'amelio has also started releasing music. Her debut song ‘Be Happy’ was quickly hated on by the internet, perhaps understandably. However, she didn't let being hated on by hundreds of thousands people stop her. Her music has slowly improved and she has matured in her lyricism, yet she is still giving off the same vibes from her first song. In our opinion, Dixie’s voice is not that bad and has shown development yet her lyrics are slightly cringey as shown below.

"Sometimes I don't wanna be happy

Don't hold it against me

If I'm down, just leave me there

Let me be sad"

Ultimately, we rate her a 5/10 as the song lacked intelligent lyrics and real meaning. Her score was saved as Charli didn’t follow her into this business endeavor. However, the family should maybe stick to dinner with Mr Charles.

Overall, we think that Josh and Bryce have the best music with Nessa coming in a close second. This is because Josh and Bryce are humourous yet the roast slaps. However we have also decided that Nessa is unmatched!! But Jojo Siwa's Boomerang will always be the best ladies!
